MPB switches to Brio Broadcast Audio Console

MALAYSIA:

Media Prima Berhad (MPB), one of Malaysia’s leading media organizations, has recently made a significant investment in broadcast audio technology by acquiring Calrec’s Brio compact digital broadcast audio console. This purchase, facilitated by JAA Systems (JAA.S), the official distributor of Calrec in Malaysia, marks MPB as the second media organization in the country to adopt the Brio console, following in the footsteps of Astro Awani, which integrated a Brio desk into its operations late last year.

The newly acquired Brio system is set to be installed in MPB’s Studio B, a key facility for the broadcaster’s live operations. The setup includes a console with 36 dual-layer faders, two Br.IO stageboxes, and a Hydra2Hub, making it a comprehensive solution for MPB’s audio needs. The decision to choose the Brio system was influenced by MPB’s positive experience with Calrec’s Summa and Brio mixers during the latest series of Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) earlier in the year. “We had a great exposure with the Calrec mixers during AJL,” commented Muhammad Nur Azrin Vellasamy, Senior Audio Director at MPB. “We were impressed with its features, vast onboard I/Os, and AoIP capability available on a compact broadcast console with good sound quality. Hence, when we required an upgrade in the studio, we had no doubts that the Brio mixer was best suited and ideal for Studio B’s live operation requirements.”

In addition to supplying the equipment, JAA Systems played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition by providing comprehensive training to MPB’s staff on the Brio system. This training was essential to equip the team with the necessary skills to maximize the potential of the new console, ensuring seamless integration into their existing workflow. “MPB bought the Brio mixer in July, and it was delivered to their facility in August,” explained David Chan, Director of JAA Systems. “Broadcasters in Malaysia have started to warm up to Calrec mixers, with the Brio making inroads across Malaysia and Southeast Asia.”

This acquisition underscores the growing trend among broadcasters in Malaysia to invest in advanced audio technology that offers superior sound quality, extensive features, and the flexibility needed for modern broadcast environments. The adoption of Calrec’s Brio Broadcast Audio Console by MPB is a testament to the console’s capability to meet the demands of live broadcast operations, making it an increasingly popular choice among media organizations in the region.

In addition to supplying the equipment, JAA.S provided MPB staff with training on the Brio system. ‘MPB bought the Brio mixer in July and it was delivered to their facility in August,’ explained David Chan, director of JAA.S. ‘Broadcasters in Malaysia have started to warm up to Calrec mixers, with the Brio making inroads across Malaysia and South East Asia.’
