Cignal TV chooses Calrec for its fleet of OB Vans

PHILIPPINES:

JAA Systems has supplied a Summa 32 fader, a Brio12 mixer and two Brio36 to Cignal TV’s four OB vans in Manila. The Summa mixer was installed in the main sound OB Truck with 5.1 surround sound, while the Brio36 mixers were selected for one six-camera TV production van and one audio production van respectively. One OB Van is dedicated to the graphics system while a mobile 4-camera fly pack is equipped with the Brio12 mixer.

Cignal TV, launched in 2009, is said to be the Philippines’ premier DTH satellite provider. With over 3 million subscribers, there is a strong demand for live sports and events production, hence why Cignal TV decided to build a fleet of OB Vans to cater for up to 20 camera production systems but in three standalone OB Van systems, in order to manage differing events on any given day.

JAA.S supplied and worked closely with Philippines’s system integrator based in Manila, Composite Technology, to design and configurate the systems. The whole installation took about four months in total. “We are proud that Cignal TV is the new owner of not one Summa mixer but also three other Brio digital audio mixers. As matter of fact, this is the first Calrec’s Summa mixer that has been delivered to the Philippines and the SEA region. This is proof that Calrec Audio is well-received and well-liked by many broadcasters in the region. We would like voice our appreciation to Composite Technology for the great work on the OB Vans,” said Ts David Chan, director of JAA Systems.

Rogelio S. Escrupulo Jr., supervisor of Broadcast Systems Engineering, said: “Calrec is one of the icons in radio and TV broadcasting and we are happy to have one. Cignal TV purchased the Calrec Brio and Summa for sports live broadcast and 5.1 mixing. As a sound engineer, I want a mixing console that is flexible and user friendly. Just like an analogue mixer, I can access everything on the surface, with the console easy to learn and adopt.”

“It was a great challenge to build four large TV production OB Vans within a period of five months. Even though this project went on during the post-Covid-19 pandemic period, delivery of equipment was still being delayed. The coach building for all OB Vans had to be completed concurrently. Despite the unforeseen issues and delays, all the Calrec equipment was delivered on time as promised. We were successful in delivering the OB Vans for the first live events covering the FIBA Draw and PBA game coverages in April 2023,” said Rick Padrinao, president of Composite Technology.
