JAA.S modernises two more RTM regional radio stations

MALAYSIA:

The historical city of Melaka and the capital of Negeri Sembilan state, Seremban, are set to witness significant upgrades in its regional Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) radio stations. The upgrading process for both RTM Melaka and RTM Seremban radio stations was completed in April 2023.

The upgrades are intended to modernise both studio facilities with the latest IP AES67 technology. By embracing modern technology, the radio stations aim to enhance their broadcasting capabilities and deliver improved content to their audiences. Additionally, the adoption of IP infrastructure is expected to streamline the radio station’s operations, making them more agile and adaptable to changing industry trends, hopefully leading to improved programme production, scheduling and content management.

JAA Systems (JAA.S) played a crucial role in supporting the main contractor, Medialab Alliance, during the modernising process of RTM Melaka and RTM Seremban’s studios. JAA.S supplied a range of IP-based systems and technological equipment to enhance the overall audio quality and broadcasting capabilities.

The AoIP radio digital audio mixers, Calrec’s Type R, were used in six studios at RTM Melaka and seven studios at RTM Seremban. At the MCR, Calrec’s Type R audio router consists of 64 x 64 routing channels, which will be the main backbone for the audio system in the respective stations. The RCS Zetta radio automation system were chosen for both stations, as well as WinMedia’s visual radio, WinCAM, accompanied by three PTZ cameras and an audio detection system.

“The shift to Audio over IP technology allows for more efficient data transmission and seamless integration of various systems. This upgrade is likely to result in enhanced broadcast reliability, improved audio clarity and better overall performance. As a consequence of these upgrades, listeners of RTM Melaka and RTM Negeri Sembilan can look forward to a more engaging and enjoyable radio experience. The enhanced audio quality and modern technology should provide a richer and more immersive listening experience,” said JAA.S director, David Chan.

Calrec’s Brio36 consoles, along with Br.IO stageboxes, have been installed at the multipurpose/recording studios at RTM Melaka and RTM Seremban respectively. For the OB sound system, a special 13ft Outside Broadcast truck with acoustics treatment was coach-built, while NEXO’s GEO series line array loudspeakers and Yamaha QL series audio mixers were supplied in portable cases.

To cater for internal communication purposes, LaON’s Genie panels intercom system has been implemented. In the respective multipurpose and recording studios, both Merging Technologies’ Pyramix DAW and its audio interfaces, Hapi and Anubis, were installed.

The Orban Audio processor, 8700LT, has been utilised at both stations. While for the professional audio IP codec system, Prodys’s Quantum series are installed at both stations as well. “The combination of this cutting-edge technology to deliver superior audio quality to their listeners. The use of these industry-leading equipment demonstrates the commitment of both regional radio stations to provide an exceptional listening experience for their audiences,” said Chan.
