Merging into Pelangi Studio Digital Audio Workstations

INDONESIA:

Renowned sound engineer, composer, and producer Chossy Pratama was recently called upon to provide expert advice during a significant upgrade at Pelangi Studio. The studio, which has long been a cornerstone in the Indonesian music industry, was transitioning from traditional audio tapes to modern digital file formats, a move that required careful consideration of the best tools and technologies available for sound restoration and mastering. Given the importance of this upgrade, Pelangi Studio’s management team sought the expertise of Mr. Pratama to ensure that the transition would maintain the studio’s high standards for audio quality.

Understanding the complexities of digital audio workstations (DAWs) and the critical role they play in sound production, Mr. Pratama consulted with JAA Systems, the South East Asia distributor for Merging Technologies. Together, they embarked on a trial phase, during which the Pyramix digital audio workstations and the Horus audio interface were put through rigorous testing. These tools were selected due to their reputation for delivering exceptional sound quality, which was paramount for the restoration of Pelangi Studio’s vast archive of audio tapes.

After thoroughly evaluating the Pyramix DAW and Horus interface, Mr. Pratama made his final recommendation to the management team at Pelangi Studio. His endorsement of Merging Technologies’ solutions was rooted in the superior audio quality that these tools provided. “Merging’s Pyramix is the best sounding DAW in the market,” Mr. Pratama stated, highlighting the workstation’s unparalleled ability to produce high-fidelity audio. He acknowledged that while the workflow might be more complex compared to other DAWs, the sound production capabilities of Pyramix far outweighed any learning curve. The Horus interface, with its ability to deliver a remarkably “analogue” sound, further solidified his recommendation. Additionally, the integration of a Ravenna AoIP (Audio over IP) infrastructure and the Aneman audio networking system made the restoration and mastering process highly efficient, ensuring that the transition from analogue to digital was seamless and effective.

With the decision made, JAA Systems took on the responsibility of overseeing the installation at Pelangi Studio. The team installed Merging’s Pyramix Native production and mastering software on three computers, ensuring that the studio had the necessary tools to handle complex audio projects. A single Horus interface was also installed, providing a robust and reliable connection between the digital workstation and the studio’s audio sources. The combination of these technologies provided Pelangi Studio with a state-of-the-art setup that was fully equipped to handle the demands of modern audio production and restoration.

JAA Systems’ involvement in this project was a testament to their expertise in delivering high-quality audio solutions tailored to the specific needs of their clients. David Chan, Director of JAA Systems, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Pyramix and Horus have once again proved that they are the best audio interfaces on the market.” He noted that the successful installation at Pelangi Studio added to an already impressive year for sales in Merging Technologies equipment, further establishing JAA Systems as a leading provider of audio solutions in the region.

The upgrade at Pelangi Studio not only modernized the facility but also preserved the integrity of its vast audio archive. By choosing Merging Technologies’ Pyramix and Horus, the studio ensured that it could continue to deliver the highest quality audio production while embracing the advantages of digital technology. This project exemplified the importance of selecting the right tools and partners for such a critical transition, with JAA Systems and Chossy Pratama playing key roles in achieving a successful outcome for the Digital Audio Workstations.
