CATS FM Broadcasts with JAA Systems

MALAYSIA:

Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak is an annual event for Malaysians to learn about the Sarawak culture and the latest developments through various activities. This year the event was held at the MITEC exhibition hall in Kuala Lumpur and attended by 8,000 visitors. For the second consecutive year, JAA Systems helped create, set up and support CATS FM’s Outside Broadcast Studio’s system for its coverage of the event.

The setup included a Calrec Type R digital audio mixer, which was chosen due to its AoIP capability, flexibility and ease of use. It also involved four Shure microphones and AKG headphones, KRK speakers and Prodys Quantum Lite IP audio codecs. All of this was used by CATS FM to broadcast the event live via the FM frequency in Sarawak.

CATS FM also decided to broadcast live video of Lan Berambeh on Facebook. For this visual radio system, JAA supplied two Panasonic cameras from the HC8000 series to capture the event, a Roland video switcher to support the cameras and a BMD-intensity device for live streaming.

‘As the main radio broadcaster for the event, our main concern is to ensure the live quality audio feeds are consistent and reliable,’ said Hj Iskandar Nawawi, CEO of CATS FM. ‘We are very happy that we could broadcast live flawlessly from the event to all listeners in Sarawak. It is even sweeter as we are able to live stream the event and interviews via Facebook Live for the first time. A big thanks to the JAA Systems team who are professional and whose competence made this event a great success.’

David Chan, director of JAA Systems, added: ‘Our greatest challenge in setting up this live event was that the FOH speakers were facing towards the Outside Broadcast Studio directly. As the event was held in a large closed hall, the sound from FOH naturally spilled into the Outside Broadcast Studio. While CATS FM wanted to have some background ambient sound to showcase what it was like inside the event, we had to ensure that the DJ and interviewed guests could be heard clearly without too much ambience. At the same time, as we were setting up the visual radio system, we had to ensure there were no lip sync issues when broadcasting to Facebook Live. Overall, it was a great success and we were glad to support CATS FM on Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2019.’
