MPB switches to Brio

MALAYSIA: Media Prima Berhad (MPB) has become the second media organisation in Malaysia to invest in Calrec’s Brio compact digital broadcast audio console. The purchase was facilitated by the manufacturer’s official distributor, JAA Systems (JAA.S), and follows the sale of a Brio desk to Astro Awani late last year.

The new Brio system will be installed in MPB’s Studio B and consists of 36 dual layer faders, a pair of Br.IO stageboxes and a Hydra2Hub. It was chosen after the broadcaster had the opportunity to use Calrec’s Summa and Brio mixers for the latest series of Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) earlier in the year. ‘We had a great exposure with the Calrec mixers during AJL ’ commented Muhammad Nur Azrin Vellasamy, Senior Audio Director at MPB. ‘We were impressed with its features, vast on board I/O’s and AOIP capability available on a compact broadcast console with a good sound quality. Hence, when we required an upgrade in the studio we had no doubts that the Brio mixer was best suited and ideal for Studio B’s live operation requirement.’

In addition to supplying the equipment, JAA.S provided MPB staff with training on the Brio system. ‘MPB bought the Brio mixer in July and it was delivered to their facility in August,’ explained David Chan, director of JAA.S. ‘Broadcasters in Malaysia have started to warm up to Calrec mixers, with the Brio making inroads across Malaysia and South East Asia.’
