MALAYSIA:
Following the installations of transmitter systems for radio stations such as KK FM, Manis FM and Bario, JAA Systems was called upon by CATS FM to replace nine old transmitter systems to the radio channel’s existing locations and set up three new transmitter sites in Sarawak, appointing Medialab Alliance as the systems integrator for the project. Elettronika transmitters and Orban audio processors were installed at all 12 locations, while RFS antenna systems were set up at the three new transmitter sites.
‘It was among the most challenging and satisfying projects that we have encountered. There were 12 transmission [Tx] sites that we had to complete in phases. As with any transmitter project, it was challenging as most of the Tx sites were in hilly and remote areas. Due to the short time frame, we had to split up the work up. The most satisfying part was that we could complete the whole project successfully within the timeframe allocated by CATS FM. It was a welcome sight to see people happily tune in, especially to the three new Tx sites,’ said David Chan, director of JAA Systems.
‘A complete redundant switchover of 1kW and 500W transmitter systems has come with basic remote monitoring using SMS. What we have learned from this project is that we can never take small matters for granted. Never expect anything and be well prepared,’ commented Azhar Abdul Latiff, project director of Medialab Alliance.
Hj Iskandar Nawawi, CEO of CATS FM, added: ‘We had to replace aging transmitter systems to make sure that we had consistent transmission and continuous broadcasting without any problems. This was a large project and we had concerns about whether we could upgrade all of the Tx sites in one go. We are glad to have engaged with JAA Systems who are competent and professional. With this project, CATS FM is happy to have covered three new broadcasting areas, namely Kapit, Belaga and Lawas. We look forward to gathering more listeners in these respective areas.’
